— As I’m typing this, there is a thunderstorm going on outside, it is almost 1 am and the A’s are in first place in the American League West. Not your normal Wednesday night. 

A’s 6, Rangers 5
Shea Langeliers hit a 467-foot home run to put the A’s up 4-2 in 6th inning.
Joel Kuhnel got four outs for his third save.
Jack Wilson also homered for the A’s.

— Padres 7, Mariners 6
Seattle led this game 6-0 in the sixth inning.
Padres scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Jackson Merrill had the game winning hit for San Diego.

— Dodgers 8, Mets 2
Shohei Ohtani struck out 10 guys in six IP; he didn’t hit.
Dalton Rushing homered, had four RBI.
Mets have now lost eight in a row, are 7-12.

— Diamondbacks 8, Orioles 5 (10)
Adrian Del Castillo homered in 10th inning, had five RBI.
Arizona went 6-3 on their road trip.
Over is 6-2 in Baltimore’s last eight home games.

— New York 5, Angels 4
Jose Caballero had a walk-off double for New York.
Left side of Angels’ IF botched an easy pop-up earlier in the inning.
Trout/Judge both homered in this game.

— Detroit Tigers signed rookie SS Kevin McGonigle to an 8-year, $150M contract that will start next season. McGonigle is 21 years old; now he’s really, really rich.

Movie of the Day: Up in the Air (2009)- A guy whose job is to go around the country firing people is told that his company is going to start firing people via video conferences.
 
George Clooney is the guy who fires people, Jason Bateman is his boss, Vera Farmiga is a woman he messes around with on his road trips and Anna Kendrick is the person who is hired to introduce the new way of firing people.

Good movie, with couple of surprising twists/turns.

This was Detroit’s third win this year when they scored two runs.
Royals have scored 2 or fewer runs in 11 of their 18 games.

Milwaukee scored twice in 8th inning, snapped six-game losing skid.
Dylan Cease allowed two hits in six shutout IP.
Toronto is 6-6 at home, 1-4 on the road.

— Astros 3, Rockies 1
Spencer Arrighetti struck out 10 guys in six IP.
Colorado has lost six games in a row.
Houston is 7-2 at home, 1-9 on the road.

— Cardinals 5, Guardians 3
Dustin May got the win, giving up a run in six IP.
Riley O’Brien got his fifth save of the season.
St Louis is 7-3 when they score 5+ runs.

— Reds 8, Giants 3
Rookie 1B Sal Stewart hit two 3-run homers.
Tyler Mahle is 0-3, 7.23 so far this season.
Giants are 6-12, tied with Colorado for worst record in the NL.
