— In 1981, there was a minor league baseball game that lasted 33 innings; Cal Ripken Jr, Wade Boggs both played in that game, which was eventually suspended, then finished couple of months later.
— QB Brendan Sorsby, who has admitted to having a gambling problem, won’t be eligible for either college football or the NFL this fall. He’ll be eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft.
— Last 20 years, only 4 of 20 players taken first overall in the draft has wound up winning a championship ring with the team that drafted him.
— Henri Veesaaw would’ve made $5M or so in NIL money had he gone back to North Carolina and played basketball this fall; instead, he applied for the NBA Draft, then den’t get picked in the first draft, which makes his decision a very expensive one.
Veesaaw wound up with the Atlanta Hawks, the 52nd pick in the draft.
— If you like the NBA, their summer league is at UNLV from July 9-19; it is a lot of fun to go to, and not very expensive. I’ve been there a few times; it is worth the trip.
— Saint Mary’s basketball team is taking a trip to Australia August 9-21, giving them a head start on preseason practice. Gaels have long gotten a lot of recruits from Australia, this will give new coach Mickey McConnell a good chance to make/strengthen recruiting contacts.
