Monday’s Den: First half of our SEC football preview, and other stuff…….

— Home Run Derby is on Netflix this year; should be a good derby, with Philly being a good home run park. But wouldn’t you want as many people as possible to see your biggest stars in a Home Run Derby? Major League Baseball doesn’t market itself well.

— Phillies 6, Mets 2
Phillies led 5-0 after the second inning.
Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper both hit home runs.
Mets are 34-43, with the #2 payroll in baseball ($368,690,978)

— In the third inning of that game, Carson Benge hit a home run into the left field bleachers; a kid caught the ball, reached into his bag of stuff, pulled out another baseball, and threw it on the field, keeping the major league baseball for himself.

— Learned something this weekend: the home plate umpire can look at his device and see whether his called ball/strike was correct, whether the pitch was challenged or not.

— Tigers 5, White Sox 4 (10)
White Sox led 3-1 in the 8th inning.
Dillon Dingler homered, also tied the game in 9th inning.
Matt Vierling had a walk-off bloop single to end the game.

— Twins 4, Diamondbacks 2
Arizona led 2-0 after the sixth inning.
24-year old rookie Jose Cabrera tossed five shutout IP in his MLB debut.
Minnesota won five of its last six games.

— Cardinals 12, Royals 10
St Louis led 9-6 after the second inning.
JJ Wetherholt homered twice, scored three times.
DH Ivan Herrera was 3-for-5, scored three runs, had three RBI.

Managing a fantasy baseball is tough; in his last four starts, Dustin May gave up five runs in 27.2 IP, which is really good. In this game, he faced 13 hitters, and six of them scored. No bueno.
